School Games Mark
The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to develop competition both within the school and across the community. Schools assess themselves across the levels and the mark is awarded retrospectively at the end of the academic year.
This academic year’s application window is open until Friday 28 July 2017. This will reward schools for the quality of their sport provision during the 2016-17 year. This year, along with Bronze, Silver and Gold, a new Platinum level of the award has been introduced.
Why should schools apply?
There are several reasons to achieve a School Games Mark:
- Ofsted can use the Mark award as part of their inspection framework
- Collateral can be displayed around the school to promote the achievement
- You can use it as a development tool to aid your PE teacher or Headteacher
- The logo can be added to existing school branding to demonstrate your commitment to school games.
How to apply for the School Games Mark
If your school isn’t already registered it’s simple to do so on the School Games Mark website.
There is a simple application form to fill out and the application will then be sent on to your School Games Organiser (SGO). In some cases, this may be sent for further external verification.
Your SGO is the person responsible for delivering your collateral. Mark certificates are now downloadable, enabling you to print and display them as soon as the application is verified.
